CENTRAL — Daniel High School’s Chess Team won the S.C. Scholastic High School Chess Championship on Feb. 27, marking the ninth consecutive state chess title that Daniel has won competing against public high schools, magnet schools, private schools and home schoolers.

Thirty-eight individuals on 13 teams participated in this competition at the high school level.

Team members are Daniel Custer (eighth place overall), Caleb Hylkema (second place overall), Grecia Post, Kevis Tsao (first place overall), and Ben Wyant (tenth place overall).

Tsao will advance and will represent South Carolina in the Denker Tournament of High School Champions later this year.

Daniel High School teachers Pat Welsh and Aaron Hylkema serve as advisors and coaches for the team.
