Do you know what the definition of insanity is? If not, I will share it with you. It happens to be important to what I am writing to you about today: “Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.”

Does that seem at all familiar? No? Not even in an election year?

It should, because as always the presidential race is beginning to heat up. If you haven’t been paying any attention, the insanity has begun again. All you have to do is study history and you will see how this uniquely American mental illness has spread and even grown more malignant over the years. And the contributing factor to it all is the voters’ willingness to continue to take it and go back for more.

I am sure people should be upset. When the obvious is pointed out, for example, all of the true believers out there finally see they have been duped all of these years into believing the dogma passed down from the respective heads of both parties.

The truth of it all is nothing is different. I will save you the time and effort of following this farcical tragedy by showing you ahead of time what the next five years will be like. You should still vote as it will be the only way change may occur.

Both parties’ candidates will continue to pound the campaign trail, stating how they can relate to the working people of this country, but only after haircuts that cost hundreds of dollars, first class travel and have the protection of armed guards, while making incomes in the millions.

The candidates will continue to insult one another like children, children who would be punished if it weren’t a group of adults, rarely ever saying anything of substance. They will take questions from reporters too afraid to offend them, or answer questions in debates, and it is almost always the same: “I have a 310-point plan to address, blah, blah, blah.”

Notice you never actual hear what these ideas are though?

Then, finally, the beauty pageant will be over, because let’s face it, we don’t nominate based on leadership or ability. We elect because they look good on TV, or it’s the right time for an African-American, or in this year’s election, a woman. I agree, it has long been overdue for diversity, but to vote for someone just because of someone’s race or gender, is that really a good idea?

And now that the finalists are in place, the process begins again, more debates, more childish behavior, no real answers or offerings of solutions, there will be strife between voters, and finally it will be all over and the “Don’t blame me” bumper stickers will appear — which is kind of an odd way to be involved civically speaking, washing your hands of the mess and letting others take the blame.

By the time the polls close in November, a winner will be declared and voters on the West coast will not believe their vote is going to matter. A president will be crowned — yes, I said crowned because most politicians are nothing more than a member of a new aristocracy in this country.

Before the election is over, the discussion will begin for 2020 as to who will run and why they are the best candidates, which means the parties have already decided what your choices will be based on the party, not a single issue which must be dealt with.

Following the January inauguration, the new leader will spend the next four years explaining how much of a genius he/she is if the rest of the government would just do what he/she says.

In other words, both sides will spend four years convincing you it is the other party’s fault the debt continues to grow, children go hungry, veterans live in the streets, racism prevails, big business is out of control, debt slavery is rampant, unemployment is too high, and military actions continue overseas, years after they were to end.

Then you will begin the process again as they implore you to make it different in the next election by voting for their party alone, so one side can have the power to make a difference.

The truth is, whether any will admit it or not, the powers that be like it that no party has the seats or power to rule, because then the expectation would be to make progress for the people instead of donors. And then where would they place the blame for failure?
