PICKENS COUNTY — School children love a good snow day but when you miss school due to the weather, that means you have to make up the day. Pickens County students can rest assured that the School District of Pickens County has it all under control.

John Eby, Public Information Specialist for the School District of Pickens County, said the days missed due to inclement weather were already scheduled for the 2015-2016 school year.

As part of the calendar, three days were set aside during the planning stages for the academic year in case of “snow days” and students and parents should be aware of those dates already as they were provided by SDPC as well as posted on the district’s website.

The days set aside for makeup are Feb. 26, March 25, and June 2. Thus far, as of Jan. 25, only two of those days are needed and students will attend on Feb. 26 and March 25.

“The state law says school districts have to make up three days with the local school board able to forgive up to three more days,” Eby said. “I believe beyond that the district would have to petition the state Legislature to forgive any days beyond those six. As of now the days are covered and we are just waiting to see if the weather is going to bring another storm into the area. Hopefully we won’t have to worry about having days forgiven, but you never know.”

Parents are asked to consult the SDPC website for further information on any scheduling questions.

The snowstorm that moved into South Carolina at the end of last week meant students all across the state got to stay home for a Snow Day. But as much fun as it is to be out of school — especially when there is snow involved — the days will have to be made up, even in Pickens County.
