ANDERSON COUNTY – Anderson County Roads and Bridges will close a portion of Firetower Road, from Bratcher Road (S-04-0264) to Rodgers Road on Jan. 12 to begin replacing the existing 63-year-old narrow bridge over Barkers Creek.

The project is expected to take one year to complete.

The new bridge will be 33-feet wide and 50-feet long. The deck will consist of pre-cast hollow core slabs with an asphalt overlay. All of the bridge and roadway work will be completed in-house by Roads & Bridges crews, using county general funds. The total cost of the project is anticipated to be $250,000.

The signed detour route from the Bratcher Road and Firetower Road intersection will run southeast .43 miles to Griffin Farm Road, southwest .44 miles to S.C. 252, west .91 miles to Rodgers Road, and north .63 miles back to Firetower Road. Only residents and delivery vehicles will be permitted within the road closure area.
