EASLEY — To the sounds of Christmas carols old and new, the city of Easley officially kicked off the holidays locally with its annual Tree Lighting ceremony to the delight of children old and young.

Nothing says the holidays like an elaborately decorated tree, and Easley’s is a sight to behold when the sun goes down, serving as a beacon to draw visitors to downtown.

The star adorning the top may be seen from nearly every vantage point downtown and drew a large crowd to celebrate the official beginning of the holidays.

Mayor Larry Bagwell welcomed residents and guests to the celebration before there was light greeted with enthusiasm. Once the ceremony ended, there was hot chocolate and cookies plus time for friends and neighbors to visit in a holiday spirit.

But that wasn’t all as Santa Claus made an appearance and even took time to visit with some local children who were eager to share with the Jolly Old Elf what they had in mind for the holidays.

It was a delight to see the smiles, hear the songs, and watch as parents enjoyed the free spirited mood around the children and the beautiful ornamental decorations provided by the city.

And as a final note, all the children seemed to be on their best behavior, especially when rumors of Santa’s arrival circulated through the crowd.

Downtown Easley took on a hint of Norman Rockwell as the City of Easley held its annual Tree Lighting Ceremony Dec. 4 with Santa Claus and a host of residents in attendance for the occasion.
