EASLEY — With minutes to go before kickoff, the Easley Green Wave was ready for some football, but when it finally arrived — following a three-hour weather delay — it was the Seneca Bobcats who were ready to roll.

The Bobcats rolled up and down the field to a commanding first quarter lead and a 38-0 win.

Easley (2-1, 1-1) was unable to muster an answer for the high powered Bobcats offense that posted three first quarter touchdowns, handing Easley a deficit it would not find a way to respond to. Seneca (2-0, 1-0) is averaging just over 45 points per game following the two opening weeks of play while the Green Wave suffered its first loss of the season under first year head coach John Windham.

Seneca put together a 45-yard, six-play drive to open the scoring capped by a 2-yard TD run by Braxton Gambrell and the 7-0 lead. Daquan Mackey would then reach the end zone for the Bobcats from 10 yards out on the ground, giving Seneca a 14-0 lead. It would be the Seneca defense that would set the table next.

Chris Webb picked off the first of two passes on the night for Seneca at the Easley 33-yard line creating a short field for the Bobcats offense. Andre Wright then caught a 38-yard TD pass to take the lead to 21-0.

The Seneca defense held the Green Wave offensive attack in check until late in the second half of play and would seal the win on the half’s opening drive, going 57-yards before Jacory Benson dove in from the three yard line stretching the Seneca lead to four scores, 31-0.

Easley would threaten, managing to reach the Bobcats’ 10-yard line but on a fourth down attempt with four yards to go would be unable to convert, handing the ball back to Seneca. The Green Wave would not threaten the Seneca end zone again but Seneca had one more score in the tank.

Gambrell ripped off a 62-yard run in the fourth quarter, setting up a 2-yard plunge by Benson to take Seneca to 38-0 on the scoreboard and the game’s final score with 9:32 on the clock.

According to Windham, the Bobcats played a more physical game on both sides of the ball and were bigger, stronger, and faster throughout the contest.

Easley will make the short trip to Wren on Sept. 11 to face the Golden Hurricanes, coming off a 61-28 thrashing at the hands of T. L. Hanna.
