POWDERSVILLE — The Powdersville Patriots (4-1) did two things against the Pendleton Bulldogs (2-3) Sept. 23 and that was win the first ever overtime game in school history.

It was also the first win over Pendleton and it only took double OT for the 37-34 win.

In the beginning it appeared it would be flashbacks of previous match-ups between the Patriots and Bulldogs as Pendleton took their opening possession the length of the field and capped the drive on a QB keeper with Colin Bunch reaching the endzone, and just like that Powdersville was down with only three plays in the books.

Unlike past games though Powdersville’s offense responded, tying the game at 7. And that was when the Patriots defense decided enough was enough for awhile.

The Powdersville defense shut down Pendleton’s offensive attack throughout the remainder of the first half and took a 24-7 lead into the locker room. A change at QB for the Bulldogs would change their fortunes though as they would come storming back.

With three quarters in the books, Pendleton’s offense had closed the gap to a 7 point Powdersville lead and by the end of regulation both teams would need more time to finish out the game.

Pendleton and Powdersville traded TD’s in the first OT period and Pendleton would eventually take the lead for the first time since the opening possession of the game, 34-31.

Powdersville was unable to get into FG range but E. J. Humphrey settled the issue finding the endzone for his second TD and a final of 37-31. Humphrey carried the ball 17 times for 76 yards to go a long with his two scores.

Tay Cureton was under center for Powdersville for the injured Emery Williams and finished 8-15 with 132 yards and two TD’s.

Powdersville travels to Carolina Academy on Sept. 30.
