CENTRAL — Southern Wesleyan University has added 27 athletes for the 2016-17 season — 16 for the men’s team and 11 for the women’s team, including five from Pickens County schools.

Greg Thiel, head men’s cross country and track & field coach, made the announcement.

On the men’s team, Yasin Glanton, a junior from Central and graduate of Daniel High School, will join freshman Raymond Simmons, an Easley High School graduate, and junior Roger Tinsley, a Pickens High School graduate.

Others include freshmen John Bogert from Metrolina, N.C.; Shonquez Caldwell from Spartanburg; Kameron Corprew from Chesapeake, Va.; Kiernan Gordon from Walhalla; Leonard Holmes from Tallahassee, Fla.; Jannai Maxwell from Cape Coral, Fla.; Craig Nowinski from Indian Rocks Beach, Fla.; Jordan Paden from Greer; Drayden Ray from Boiling Springs; Keuntrai Robinson, from Clinton; Edward Todd from Tampa, Fla.; and Jake Wicks from Syracuse, N.Y. JJ Green, a junior from Dorman, also joins the team.

Thiel also announced the addition of 11 female athletes to the women’s Cross Country and Track & Field teams, including freshman Hanan Balawi, a graduate of Liberty High School, and freshman Chyna Cannon, a graduate of Daniel High School.

Others include freshmen Kayla Achenbach from Jacksonville, Fla.; Emma Akridge from Salem; Lyric King from Orlando, Fla.; Jami Lewis from Stafford, Va.; Ashley Roebuck from Lexington; Samantha Stelmaszek from Middleburg, Fla.; Sarah Stone from Spartanburg; and Paris West from Lexington. Junior Shavon Fields from Bronx, N.Y., is also joining the team.
