So the St. Louis Rams are moving back to Los Angeles after 20-something years — and my husband couldn’t be happier.

The weird thing about pro football, as opposed to college, is your favorite team can just up and move on you. And while I’m sure the players and coaches aren’t shedding any tears about the notion of moving to sunny LA, I feel a little bad for the fans in St. Louis.

As a life-long Cleveland Browns fan, I know first hand the pain of seeing your football leave town for greener pastures. Unlike the Browns, at least the Rams continued to exist — if in name only.

Nobody likes Baltimore …

What if the Rams’ decision to return to LA was to mark some kind of a turning point in the NFL where more and more teams returned to their original homes?

Arizona, be on the watch — your boys may be returning to St. Louis. Granted, this seems highly unlikely since the Cardinals are in the NFC Championship game against Carolina this weekend and Superbowl contenders tend to stay put.

The Houston Texans would be scrapped all together to make room for the Oilers to come back to town. Those fans up in Tennessee will just have to be content with the Vols.

Seattle is a weird situation: when they came into the league in the mid-70s, they were NFC. A year later, the Seahawks were AFC. Seattle switched back to the NFC in 2001. I say we make them join the CFL … They’re way up there anyway.

But how far back do we take this? In 1921 the Decatur Staleys moved to Chicago to become the Bears. In 1934, the Portsmouth Spartans from Ohio became the Detroit Lions and the Redskins were in Boston long before they set foot in D.C.

Of course, this is still all fairly recent. Of the 14 NFL “original” original teams, not one exists in the same capacity in which they were founded — although arguments can be made for Arizona and Chicago.

What would happen if the citizens of Dayton, Ohio, banned together and demanded the return of their beloved “Triangles?” Because let’s face it, neither of Ohio’s teams now are getting things done.

With the Rams returning to LA, Raiders fans will just have to accept the fact that they’re going to be stuck in Oakland for the foreseeable future.

Although it could be worse. They could go back to their original name — the Oakland Señors.
