CLEMSON — Jami Brothers has been named Clemson University’s new chief of police.
Brothers, a member of the Clemson University Police Department since 2007, was chosen for the position following a national search to replace Eric Hendricks, who retired in December.
Brothers will direct all activities of CUPD, including uniform patrol, investigations, education and outreach programs, and victim assistance.
“Jami is well-prepared for the opportunity to serve as our chief of police,” said Almeda Jacks, vice president for student affairs. “During her time at Clemson, she has consistently performed at the highest levels and has always held the safety and well-being of everyone on our campus in the highest regard. We look forward to Jami continuing her great work in this new role.”
Brothers began her tenure with CUPD in August 2007 as a patrol officer, a position she held until 2011 when she was promoted to lieutenant. She held a number of roles from 2011 to 2015, serving as the department’s hiring manager, training manager and compliance officer.
She also coordinated tasks related to receiving and maintaining CUPD’s South Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation.
Brothers was promoted to captain of the department’s Operations Division in August 2015. She was responsible for the planning, direction, supervision and evaluation all CUPD operations and was also a member of the university’s Behavioral Intervention Team.

Prior to her time in Clemson, Brothers worked for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office from 1997 to 2007. She was a dispatcher her first year before moving into a deputy sheriff role for two years. From 2000 to 2005, Brothers was an investigator concentrating on property crimes and crimes against children. After a short stint as a uniform patrol sergeant, she was a lieutenant from 2005 to 2007.
“In her 20-year career, Jami has extensive experience in all levels of law enforcement,” said Johnson Link, associate vice president for municipal services. “She’s done everything we’ve asked her to do in her time at Clemson and her work has been exceptional. Jami has developed a great working relationship and trust by serving as a liaison with various entities across campus as well.”
Brothers earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Southern Wesleyan University in 1996 and Master of Science in criminology from Indiana State in 2010.
