POWDERSVILLE — American Family Care has opened a clinic in Powdersville and began seeing patients on April 20.

“We’re excited to continue fulfilling our mission of making quality healthcare accessible and economical with the opening of our medical center in Powdersville,” said Dr. Bruce Irwin, CEO and founder of American Family Care. “The opening of this location gives us the opportunity to serve new patients, bringing them quality healthcare while saving them time and money.”

Over the past 33 years, American Family Care has pioneered the concept of non-emergency room urgent care and expanded its reach to patients in more than 26 states.

The Powdersville location is locally owned by Upstate Healthcare Holdings, LLC, a partnership of local investors who plan to open six more AFC Urgent Care locations.

“We are excited about the opportunity to offer affordable healthcare to the citizens in the Upstate. This clinic, along with additional AFC locations already planned for the Upstate area, will give our community lower cost options to healthcare, ” said Paul Sparks, president and managing partner of Upstate Healthcare Holdings. “We are reinvesting in the communities we live in and take our kids to school in to deliver a best-in-class healthcare experience.”

The Powdersville clinic and future Upstate Healthcare Holdings locations will be operated by Lisa and Tim Groves, who own and operate the Easley clinic. The Groves also manage the five Greenville AFC Urgent Care locations owned by Bon Secours St. Francis Health System.

The development of the AFC location, 3613 S.C. 153, represents an investment of $2.5 million into the Powdersville community. Ten new permanent jobs were created by the opening of the business, employing healthcare professionals from the greater Powdersville area.

Dr. Jeff Harris will serve as the Powdersville facility’s medical director. He currently serves in the same capacity at the Easley clinic. The clinics are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. No appointments are necessary and most insurances are accepted.

The clinic’s website is www.afcurgentcarepowdersville.com.
