PICKENS COUNTY — Students from third through 12th grade will face off in the School District of Pickens County’s Culinary Competition on April 27.

Finalists from each school will be represented. This is the first year that the finalists from the elementary school Healthy Salad Competition and the secondary school Healthy Sandwich Competition will be combined into one event.

“Getting the kids involved and having students compete in a friendly food-centered competition will get them excited about healthy cooking and help them to develop culinary skills that they can use at home in the kitchen and later in life,” said Jenaffer Pitt, Director of Student Nutrition Services.

“We want to send the message to our students that they have the ability and creativity to make kid-friendly food that their peers will enjoy,” Pitt added. “This is the fifth year our elementary schools have held the Healthy Salad Competition, and the third year our middle/high have held the sandwich competition. We’ve seen kids prepare some impressive dishes over the years.”

The winning entry will be added to the SDPC lunch menu for next school year. The competition will be held at 4 p.m. April 27 at the Pickens County Career & Technology Center at 990 Chastain Road in Liberty.
