SPARTANBURG — Bill Caldwell, president and CEO of Spartanburg-based Waldrop Mechanical Services, has been awarded the 2017 Construction Hall of Fame Award by Clemson University’s Department of Construction Science and Management.

The award was presented to Caldwell at the department’s spring Industry Advisory Board meeting on Feb. 9 at the University’s Madren Conference Center. Caldwell and his wife, Theresa, are residents of Easley.

The Construction Hall of Fame Award recognizes the accomplishments of those who have distinguished themselves throughout their careers in construction. Selection criteria includes demonstrated leadership in the construction industry, community involvement, and support for Clemson’s Construction Science and Management program.

“Being inducted into the Construction Hall of Fame by industry peers, the department’s Industry Advisory Board, and the school’s faculty is indeed a humbling experience — especially considering the esteemed list of previous winners,” said Caldwell. “To be recognized for making a positive difference to the industry, and for having an impact on the education of tomorrow’s workforce, is an acknowledgement for which I will be forever proud.”

Caldwell has been actively involved with Clemson’s Construction Science and Management Department over the past 10 years. Currently he serves on the department’s Industry Advisory Board and is the Corporate Partner representative on the Board’s Executive Committee.

Caldwell regularly speaks to industry and student groups throughout the Carolinas about the construction industry. He is a strong advocate for workforce development, partnering with industry associations and public schools to promote construction trades as a viable career option.

Founded in 1970, Waldrop has offices in Spartanburg and Greenville. Waldrop has two main operating divisions: Waldrop Mechanical Services focuses on the commercial, institutional, industrial and healthcare sectors, while Waldrop Plumbing, Heating & Air focuses on the residential market.
