The Daniel defense held Pickens scoreless the entire first half while they put up 21 in the first two quarters. Pickens, with a late attempt to rally, came out swinging in the third — eventually putting up 21 of their own. Unfortunately for the Blue Flame, the Lions answered back, adding another 17 to their lead.

In the end, the Blue Flame lost not only head coach John Boggs, but 8 of their scheduled 10 games — including all four regional match-ups.

Playoff announcements have yet to be released but it’s certainly possible (if not probable) that the Lions have a couple more games left in them.

PICKENS — After a rough start, the Pickens Blue Flame mounted a comeback on Friday in an attempt to overtake the Daniel Lions in the last regional match-up for AAAA Region I but came up short with the Lions winning 38-21.

The Daniel defense held Pickens scoreless the entire first half while they put up 21 in the first two quarters. Pickens, with a late attempt to rally, came out swinging in the third — eventually putting up 21 of their own. For Pickens, who is ranked last in their division that includes Belton Honea-Path, Wren, Daniel and Greenville, the game marks the end to a disappointing 2016 season.
