CENTRAL – Southern Wesleyan University is rolling out a more intuitive way for prospective and current students to explore its degree course information – all accessible by a couple of clicks of a mouse.

Southern Wesleyan’s Provost and Academic Records offices have been working for several months on a user-friendly online bulletin that will provide greater flexibility as well as ease of use. The bulletin was developed with ACALOG, a powerful software application currently used by hundreds of colleges and universities.

As the university has transitioned over the years from printed course bulletins to downloadable PDF files, this new bulletin represents a logical step forward, offering more flexibility than is possible with a PDF. A professor can even post course-related videos as well as photos. There is also integration with social media, such as Facebook.

The new bulletin also represents a savings of time over earlier methods of producing, updating and editing content; and also a savings of expense and environmental impact from paper bulletins.

ACALOG makes possible an improved bulletin with up-to-date information, and also provides staff and faculty with a powerful tool for management of curriculum and other critical information. Rather than a voluminous collection of pages, the new bulletin is a relational database where updates can be made quickly and efficiently. Reports utilizing bulletin data can also be generated for a variety of purposes.

Printed copies can still be ordered directly through SWU’s marketing department. The bulletin will soon be available at www.swu.edu.
