SENECA — Duke Energy’s World of Energy education center at Oconee Nuclear Station has served the Upstate and area visitors for nearly 50 years. Since opening its doors in 1969, the education center has provided free opportunities to the public, including energy education, informative programming, family entertainment and more.
Effective Nov. 1, the World of Energy will implement new operating hours for visitors and plant neighbors, remaining open to the public 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and closing on Saturday and Sunday. The picnic area and nature trail will remain open Saturday and Sunday for public use.
Special events and featured programming will continue to be held on designated Saturdays throughout the year.
The World of Energy is in the process of refurbishing and replacing several exhibits to continue its tradition in the next 50 years as a premiere educational outpost in the utility industry.
World of Energy upcoming events include:
• National Hunting and Fishing Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 24
• Super Tuesday will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 25: Having studied more than 20 total solar eclipses around the world, Dr. Donald Liebenberg presents a public lecture featuring the total solar eclipse set to cross our path in August 2017.
• Festival of Trees Display will be held from Dec. 1 to Dec. 31 during normal business hours.
