PICKENS COUNTY — An Easley man remained in jail Monday without bond on charges he stabbed and killed his roommate following a verbal dispute between the two men.

Richard Andrew Hagins, 58, of #135 Quiet Lane in Easley, remains in the Pickens County Detention Center on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Coroner Kandy Kelley said Jeff Lin Chandler, 53, of the same address, died from stab wounds to his chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to previous reports:

The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 8:40 p.m. Friday that a man had been stabbed at #135 Quiet Lane. When deputies arrived about eight minutes later, they found Chandler dead inside the home.

Two additional witnesses were inside the home when the altercation occurred between the two men. The PCSO said the stabbing occurred following a verbal dispute over money.

A knife believed to be the murder weapon was recovered from inside the residence.
