PICKENS COUNTY — The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Pickens County man and charged him in the death of his roommate following a verbal dispute over money that led to a deadly confrontation.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call at approximately around 8:40 p.m. Friday that a man had been stabbed at a #135 Quiet Lane. When deputies arrived about eight minutes later, they found a 54-year-old man dead inside the home.

Richard Andrew Hagins, 58, was subsequently arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

The investigation revealed that the victim has several injuries consistent with stab wounds. A knife believed to be the murder weapon was recovered from inside the residence.

Two additional witnesses were inside the home when the altercation occurred between the two men.

An autopsy of the victim, who has not been identified, is pending.
