PICKENS COUNTY — The S.C. Department of Transportation will accept comments until the close of business Aug. 16 for the 2017-2022 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program.

The STIP is the state’s six-year transportation improvement program for all projects and program areas receiving federal funding. These include pavement preservation and rehabilitation; bridge preservation and rehabilitation; interstate upgrades; urban system upgrades; rural system upgrades; freight; congestion mitigation and air quality; transportation alternatives; railroad crossings; planning; state transportation infrastructure bank; and preventative maintenance and operations

The STIP is updated every three years and is revised on a continual basis to reflect the latest program and project information. A summary of comments received during the comment period will be provided to the SCDOT Commission for consideration prior to approval.

In addition, eight Regional Public Information Meetings will be held to provide residents an opportunity to review and comment on the Updated STIP. The meetings, which will have a drop-in format, will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A brief presentation will be given at the beginning of each meeting.

For this area, the meeting will be held Aug. 9 at Greenville County Square, Suite 400, 301 University Ridge in Greenville.

A hard copy of the Updated STIP are available for public review and comment at Appalachian Council of Governments, 30 Century Circle in Greenville, for Anderson, Cherokee, Greenville, Oconee, Pickens and Spartanburg counties and at Central Midlands Council of Governments, 236 Stoneridge Drive in Columbia, for Fairfield, Lexington, Newberry and Richland counties.
