PICKENS – The City of Pickens wants folks to break the chains of electronic devices, televisions and work and get outdoors to discover the many activities the area has to offer.

Venture Outdoors will be held Aug. 27 and will feature workshops on fly fishing, hiking, mountain climbing, bee keeping and kayaking at different locations around town (itinerary in the works).

With the help of Upstate SORBA, the City of Pickens will host an all-day mountain biking event at Town Creek Bike Park and a 4×4 Off-Road Cruise-In at 5:30 p.m. on Main Street.

The Pickens Farmers Market will be in full operation from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Court Street and Ray’s Mobile Foods & Meat’n in the Middle food truck will serve dinner on Main Street at 6 p.m.

Awards for the mountain bike races and Cruise-In participants will be announced at 6:30 p.m. followed by the musical stylings of The Hired Help live on the Amphitheater stage.

All profits raised will be split between the PYAC, a non-profit organization that covers recreation fees for children in financial need, and the Pickens Police Dog Fund to assist in the procurement of a trained drug and tracking dog.
