PICKENS COUNTY — The Pickens County Literacy Association is again seeking donations of gently used books for their upcoming used book sale.

Items needed include paperback and hard back books, children’s books, craft and cookbooks as well as video and audio cassettes, CDs and DVDs.

The Pickens County Literacy Association is a nonprofit organization that trains volunteer tutors to teach reading skills to non- or low-reading adults, including those needing help reading English. For more than 10 years, this semi-annual event has served as the Pickens County Literacy Association’s major fundraiser.

The success of the project is due to the generosity of those who continue to donate books and those who shop at the semi-annual sales, said program director Everett Curl.

In addition, she credited the Pickens County Literacy Association volunteers who put together this event twice a year.

The following local businesses assist the Pickens County Literacy Association by collecting books and other items:

In Pickens, take items to the Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative office, Grace United Methodist Church, Pickens First Baptist Church, Pickens Savings and Loan as well as Pickens Federal Credit Union.
