CENTRAL — Four students from Daniel High School’s German program participated in Clemson University’s 43rd annual Poetry Declamation Contest held on Oct. 24.

Alexander Birch, Benjamin Cram, Allen Holladay, and Sara Grace Turner were among the hundreds of students from South Carolina and Georgia in the competition. Participants were required to perform two poems from memory, specified according to the students’ level of language study.

They were evaluated based on pronunciation, interpretation of text, smoothness of delivery, and textural accuracy. Birch placed first in German Level 4 and Turner placed third in German Level 1.

Daniel High’s German students are taught by Delana Snyder and Mike White.
