PICKENS COUNTY — A Republican Presidential Preference Primary will be held on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, and a Democratic Presidential Preference Primary will be held on Feb. 27, 2016.

Voters can participate in only one party’s presidential preference primary. The deadline to register to vote and be eligible to vote in either Presidential Preference Primary is Jan. 27, 2016.

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. These primaries will be held under the rules for providing Photo ID at the polling place. Voters will be asked to provide one of the following Photo IDs at their polling place:

• S.C. Driver’s License

• ID Card issued by S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles

• S.C. Voter Registration Card with Photo

• Federal Military ID

• U.S. Passport

Voters should remember to bring one of these IDs with them to the polling place. Voters without Photo ID can get one free from the Department of Motor Vehicles or their county voter registration and elections office.

Voters who encounter an obstacle to getting a Photo ID should bring their voter registration card without a photo with them to their polling place. These voters can then sign an affidavit swearing to their identity and to their obstacle to obtaining a Photo ID and vote a paper provisional ballot.

This ballot will count unless the Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Pickens County has grounds to believe the affidavit is false. Visit pickenselections.org or call 864-898-5948 or 864-898-5949 for more information.

The Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Pickens County will examine the absentee ballot return envelopes from the Republican Presidential Preference Primary beginning at 9 a.m. Feb. 20. Absentee ballots return envelopes from the Democratic Presidential Preference Primary will be examined beginning at 9 a.m. Feb. 27.

The Pickens County Board of Canvassers will hold a hearing at 9 a.m. Feb. 25 to determine the validity of all provisional ballots cast in the Republican Preference Primary and will hold a hearing at 9 a.m. March 3 for the provisional ballots cast in the Democratic Preference Primary.

All examinations will be held inside the Pickens County Administrations Facility in the Board’s offices, Room B-9, 222 McDaniel Ave. in Pickens.
