CENTRAL — Fourth-grade and fifth-grade students from Central Elementary attended an educational assembly Oct. 23 on bullying presented by the Central Police Department with supplies from the National Child Safety Council.

During the assembly, students learned that bullying is a form of abuse, and any type of abuse can have long term negative consequences.

Police Chief Khristy Justice and her team taught students skills to deal with bullies without resorting to violence or becoming a bully themselves. Students were given a better understanding of bullying, a foundation for how to deal with bullies, and ways to make good social choices and be more respectful of others.

At the end of the assembly, students were given a pledge to sign stating they would put into practice all that they learned. The words “bully” and “bullying” are often times misused these days.
