WALHALLA — The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office along with the police departments in Salem, Seneca, Walhalla, Westminster and West Union, other public and private sector agencies, businesses and residents, collected water and supplies in a relief effort for those affected by the recent flooding.

“In just two days, Oconee County donated around 2,069 cases of water and that does not count the gallons of water that were donated, so the total amount of cases of water could be significantly higher, maybe closer to 3,600 cases,” said Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw.

Besides the water, donations of food, paper products, toiletries and soap, body wash, diapers, pet food, towels and wash clothes, hygiene products, cash and $950 in gift cards were also donated, as well as 60 cases of Meals Ready to Eat.

The water and other supplies were taken to Columbia on tractor trailers from Yoder’s Building Supply in Fair Play under an escort by a deputy from the Sheriff’s Office. Yoder’s provided transportation and placed the water on pallets as they were delivered to a distribution center in Columbia.

“There are so many to thank and due to the tremendous outpouring and the amount of donations we received that we may not be able to thank everyone adequately who contributed and we are sorry if we do not name someone. There were many who also contributed anonymously to the effort,” said Crenshaw.
