PICKENS COUNTY – An Easley man and a woman from Travelers Rest have been arrested in connection with a carjacking that occurred Wednesday morning on Waverly Drive.

Photos of the two were released to the public late last night, which helped generate leads on their identities.

Johnathan Charles Bridges, 39, of 131 Von Hollen Drive in Easley, and Billi Joe Garrett, also 39, of 112 Hodgens Road in Travelers Rest were both charged with carjacking.

Bridges was arrested late Thursday afternoon by the Travelers Rest Police Department without incident at a location in Travelers Rest and Garrett was arrested Wednesday night without incident also by Travelers Rest Police Department for an offense that occurred within their city limits.

Bridges is being held in the Pickens County Detention Center while Garrett is being held in the Greenville County Detention Center.

According to previous reports, a woman reported that she was approached by a man and a woman — later identified as Bridges and Garrett — around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday outside a business on Calhoun Memorial Highway. They told the victim they needed a ride because Garrett was pregnant.

The woman drove the two to the Waverly Drive area of Pickens County where Bridges threatened her with a knife and ordered her out of the vehicle. The two drove away and left the woman standing on the side of the road. She was not injured.

Bridges and Garrett attempted to use the woman’s debit card at a convenience store in Greenville County and investigators were able to pull their photos from the surveillance footage. Those photos were then released to the public.

“Nothing is more rewarding than to see this type of teamwork between law enforcement agencies, the public and our local media,” Pickens County Sheriff Rick Clark said. “Several jurisdictions have recent experience with these two individuals and to get them captured before someone gets hurt is a blessing.”
